New brooches and a new Exhibition!

Of course Valentina (do you remember her?) was so happy to leave finally to Antwerp after being at home for months.

So she welcomes you this time in De Dikke Kat (The Fat Cat in English), Kasteelpleinstraat 26. I'm showing there my work together with two other artists.

One of them, Anke De Potter, is a good friend and collegue at the academy where both of us are teaching arts.

Welcome for a warm coffee, latte, hot chocolate and so many more. Just sit down, relax and enjoy of our creations. x

Thinking, dreaming, drawing...living

oooohhh...here I am. After some very busy weeks and finishing projects. Busy times aren't over yet but there is a little bit more air to breath more easily...and not to many thrilling deadline moments. One is waiting for next friday...the opening of anoter exhibition of my work meanwhile my new products are selling very well in the Lolly Pop-up store in Antwerp (more about that in the following days).

The brooches are LOVED and I'm receiving so nice support from many people. That keeps me growing and going in what means LIFE for me! Creating every day something that touches me and hopefully so many other souls.

I want to wish all of my readers a sunny weekend with nice things to happen! Hear you!

The giant letterbook : FINISHED!

Remember some months ago? When I started cutting linoleum for this project.

Almost 30 lino-plates later the book is ready!!! I will didn't count my tears while binding this book.

Recently I'm following a course about bookbinding and all the related things, but binding a book of this size (A3) isn't even a command in the first year of the course. So I illustrated the text of Barbara Vanden Eynde and finished the prints as one enormous book. The book will be used in a guided tour for toddlers and it has even the size of a toddler. Hope they will love it!!!

And finally the LOLLY POP-UP STORE opened his doors friday evening!

Such a warm feeling to be a part of this happening together with more then 40 other designers.

I had the most busy week of this still very young year.
Preparing all the new brooches, bookmarks, postcards and prints for this shop was only one of the deadlines I had to counter but lucky I am I could bring each one to a very nice end.

Enjoy the new product-pics I made for my Etsy-shop of the bookmarks. At this moment the brooches are all for sale in the store in Antwerp. I decided to make every one of them 100% unique and I will never copy one. I go on with the tradition to give them a Quechua-name with a special meaning. Every cat with his/her own view and caracter...my little boys and girls! Glad to sell them in this wonderful little store, although little...but full of the most different and refreshing designs and nice things. If you are close pop in some hours!!! That's what you will need! Next friday another post about the designers in the store!

Ik stoom dezer dagen alle creaties klaar die ik wil meenemen naar de Lolly Pop-up Shop in Antwerpen!
De shop zal openen op vrijdagavond 20 januari en er zal werk te zien en te kopen zijn van meer dan 25 Belgische ontwerpers die tevens allemaal een Etsy-shop op het net openhouden. Ik ben zo fier dat ik eentje van hen mag zijn! Samen zullen wij de shop openhouden tot 25 februari. Iedereen is natuurlijk van harte welkom. De broches zijn ondertussen de oven gepasseerd en maken zich volledig op voor te vertrekken naar hartje Antwerpen! Ik hoop je daar te zien!

I'm finishing these days all the products I want to take with me to the Lolly Pop-up Shop in Antwerp!

The shop will be opened on the 20th of January and will show handmade stuff made in Belgium by more then 25 designers who also sell their work on Etsy. I'm so proud to be one of them! All together we will keep this little shop full of treasuries open to the public until the 25th of february! You are so welcome! The brooches passed the oven, time to paint and bring them to the place to be! Hope to meet some of you overthere ofcourse!

Back into 'play'-mode

It was a very nice time ending 2011 and entering the brand new 2012. Like I told your before we entered the new year on a isle of Holland, named Texel. It hurted so much going back to the mainland...and after that driving three hours back to the south, to our home. Sitting on that boat was my farewell to a well deserved fourdays-trip where we found rest and could breath again after busy weeks of work. So, all those memories are living in our hearts and luckily in my sketchbook...and time has come to look forward to so many new adventures. I was preparing the base of so many new brooches I will paint this week. There is coming closer a very nice event for me and 24 other designers of handmade creations.

I have so much work to do, finishing this year in the museum with the lay-out of the ABC-book, remember? and later more;), closing the last classes in the academy of this year with nice christmas-party's, putting my tree, thinking of making my christmas cards, I have still 3 days...preparing these new brooches for my shop and working hard for enough stuff/ cards/ prints for the pop-up store in Antwerp in wich I will be featured and an exhibition in a coffee bar in Antwerp too in February. Don't think I will have time for vacation...however...I'm looking forward to some relaxing days watching snowflakes and drinking hot chocolate.

This three brooches are the first of a huge family. They are made of Polymer clay, handpainted and 100% unique! Soon in my ETSY-shop!
There are still calendars too for someone who is in search of a nice gift! x

Dreamed since ages of it to start modelling my own brooches but I'm still searching from wich base I can start. This one is made of white Polymer clay and it feels comfortable and surely not heavy to wear. I made an imprint and based on that form I brought a 'cat' (how strange no? :) to life in acrylics. Love her already but still some finishing work to do before I can call it a brooch! What do you think...do I make a family for this cat? Tell me!

Handmade in Belgium

Lovely things, handmade (or usefull to make things by hand :) in Belgium were brought together in an incredible old abbey close to Hasselt. (east of Belgium). I went with a friend of me and her two daughters and we were very happy to spent our sunday in this place! Full of creative energy, inpspiration and creations. I wanted to bring all my little things together I buyed, so here is my list of 6 artists/shops :

1. ARTEMYSIA / Photography, paintings and brand new badges. The one I choosed has a picture of an old cinema seat, love it!

2. HILDE GROVEN / Illustration and jewelry. I'm a big fan of her work. I bought this time a set of postcards with her illustrations. Earlier this week I couldn't resist to buy a ring from her in a very lovely shop near Gent -------- >PETIT BAZAAR

3. KARLITA / Jewelry and scarfs. Last week I was one of the winners of a giftcard for the fair. I was free to choose some prducts in her shop. I felt in love with 2 badges from felt and a badge and necklace with japanese paper
4. BABS RAEDSCHELDERS / Design, illustration & animation. :) that badge is me!

5 & 6. PAPIERMIER / Lovely webshop with paper goods. I bought some new washi-tape and a very usefull wooden mold to make envelopes out of all kind of papers. FUN!

Ooooh this was a nice afternoon. Now back to monday and all the work! Have a nice week everyone!

Sketchbook Project 2012 - Part 2

I want to take quite often pictures of this little book as I have to send it back to Brooklyn in the end of January, to have a nice memory of how the stories were born inside the book. Today no train...so one day of rest for the little one. :)

Sketchbook Project 2012 - Working on cover

Started in my sketchbook from The Sketchbook Project. A huge Sketchbook-project organised by Art-house Co-op. Earlier this year I ordered my little book and choosed the theme Travel with me. My concept is to take it almost every day with me in the train to Antwerp and draw 'something'. I'm a dreamer. And so everything can come true in this book, every journey I want to make. I can draw wathever I want and most of all I will not think to hard while drawing. Just be inspired by the moment, the people on the train, the things I hear and see, and the limited time of 16 minutes ;) I'm very curious what it will be in the end. I have to send back the book to the Brooklyn Library before the end of January 2012.

So, let's make something of the darkest time of the year and I'll bring it all together in this little treasure.

April 2012 will be the start of a big worldtour will start with all the received sketchbooks.

El gato Frank

Last week I joined a workshop 'making your own puppet' in the workplace of Theater Froefroe in Antwerp. First I thought to make a girl like those ones I'm used to draw but suddenly she turned out into a cat and she became more HE :) With a block of foam, scissors, cutters and strong glue we started creating our 'thing'. Yesterday I took my creation to the kids of my saturday-class and they gave him the name Frank. Why Frank is a very good question! Zappa? Stella? Ghery? Anyway...don't try to guess. There are kids for! :) I will try from now to use our 'Frank' to tell them about painters, artists and creators from all over. :) When Frank is talking they are so quiet ;)))

mini-studio with model!

A little dream came true. We bought a mini-studio to make good iluminated photos off all the things we want and mostly those that I create. Just in time for another shoot of my packaged calenders ready to go to a little bookshop-coffeebar in Ghent. This pictures are looking just perfect and so Dalí thought this must be the right moment for a mini-shoot with him:) Incredible this cat! I showed him the illuminated box and immediately he rolled himself up and dreamed already of playing the sleeping beauty. ooooh Dalí :) Look his face! Like a real model. :)))

Ja! Nog een kleine droom waargemaakt :) Zo'n mini-studio met veel licht voor het maken van superfoto's van alles wat ik wens en bovenal van alles wat ik nog ga maken. Het ideale moment voor een kleine shoot van mijn klaargemaakte kalenders die naar Gent vertrekken. Vanaf vandaag kan je ze daar ook kopen bij Huize Colette, de heerlijke koffiebar-leesbar van Ottelien en Aline. Welkom!!!
Heel fijn om met deze box te werken...die foto's zien er zo écht uit en Dalí moet heel waarschijnlijk gedacht hebben dat dit hét moment was voor een mini-shoot van hemzelf ;) Ongeloofelijk! Ik toonde hem de box, hij sprong er meteen in, krulde zich op in een gezellig bolletje en keek recht in de lens! Haha, zie die blik, hij waant zich een echt model!

I'm preparing daily new packages and it gives me such a warm feeling that friends from far away and even very close, friends from now and so many years ago are touched watching my Calendar 2012. I'm making a big point of it to prepare every single package with an unusual amount of love and passion for the art, for the little paper-thing that moves hearts. wowwowwow...thank to everyone for the support. It's the perfect day to prepare my little garden for the coming winter. So I did some creative things with branches, it looks so good with all the green around and I while removing some flower pots, there he jumped out and looked at me! I shouted, but rather like woooooow!

He waited a while until I had my camera and he took me to his place.

Incredible fact! He could take so many paths but he choosed to climb! over my brand new creation :)

Such a charming prince I thought!

I tried to follow him but in some seconds there wasn't any prince around anymore.

But I'm thankful that I could take these pics of that guy!

This pillow travelled to Chadia and she was immediately inspired to make a 'real' Cupcake-cat!

When I made this drawing I dreamed to eat one like that someday...and look!

I'm cutting and cutting, my back is hurting a lot...but I'm close to the finish and my own creations keep me going on. This viking turned out even more sympathic then I wanted, soon I fall in love with him :) Love the proces...colouring is so much fun!

The mushroom people

I knew I had to go back after our visit last sunday without our camera. I've heard the mushroom people calling this morning...so I took my camera and a big green blanket to lay on for nice shots of the little ones. Time flew away while I was shooting, playing with the ponys and enjoying beiing with all these special creatures! I can't help...I'm in love with this forest and everyone who lives there!
It's so close and meanwhile so far away from daily life. I can forget a little while bills, telephones, e-mails, and all those things that occupy so many time. In the forest doesn't exist our time, it's another way of life.
Hope you will enjoy my pictures and go searching the mushroom people by yourself, they're worth it!

1/ I woked up with a very strong light in my bedroom. The sky was deepgray on one side and the sun was burning the other side. Somewhere over the rainbow...that was my place this morning. 2/ The postmen ringed once and there he was with a little gift for my sister-in-law...hope she will love this creation made by Fleurfatale. The way of packaging made me feel so happy and let's not forget the jewels inside. Visit Greet's shop FLEURFATALE...and discover a sweet world of beauties. 3/ A shot of productivity in my class this afternoon, working with soapstone...and they loved it! Thankful for every day

The rural view when I arrive in Antwerp Central station some days a week. Last saturday the morning sun was coming in and made me feel like in some kind of urban heaven. Impressive no?

Another kind of heaven on sundayafternoon. My beloved forest. Have to go back to take some pictures of incredible mushrooms. They're getting old...the end of there lives is close, hope the sun will come back these days.

And of course, my biggest inspiration and helping hand. Cannot leave it to show you how beautiful he is! When I was stamping yesterday he was thinking about the final lay-out of my book... :)

Sunday in history

A sunday like we didn't had in ages. From one second to another we decided around noon to leave our home and travel to the east of the country. Once, in another life I visited the Gallo-Roman museum in Tongeren, the oldest ciry of Belgium and one called Atuatuca Tungrorum by the Romans who made a real city of it and battled overhere with the Eburones, a tribe in that region. But after so many years the museum got a huge facelift and also my husband never visited this magic place where it all began for Belgium. We enjoyed the history while the Indian Summer made from this day such a gift! In Hasselt we discovered a very new coffee pub, called Mucho Gusto, and really, who is in town, don't forget to pass by and enjoy of the arts of Roel, the owner of this magic place!

And my evening classes (The art of books) goes on and I love it! Here some first trials with a Japanese stab binding. I'm getting loads of paper from my boxes on the attic and finally I can give them a new life! Like the last cover is made from a Peruvian schoolplate about all the fruits the country can offer :) New sketchbooks with a soul. Yesterday I started from an old book that we have to demount totally and restore if required and binding again with a new self-designed cover! So time to draw some Alice. The book is from my mom and she is very curious how it will start his new life :))) Me too! :)

The second one. Don't search for a link between the animal and the letter. The illustrations are going together with a text about letters and the magic of it. In this one it goes about the b that can form glasses together with his broter d...and so on ;) I know the owl doesn't need glasses but he was the right animal for this one I guess.

I was invited by the Plantin Moretus museum of Antwerp to this lovely project.They are designing a special guided tour for very young kids (3-5 years old) Later more about that. The most important thing for me is that I was asked to design and illustrate a book about the ABC that will have his role into this tour. After thinking to hard about what kind of technique I started cutting out my ideas into linoleum. From now on I want to give you everyday a peek into this project.

Dalíbook part 2

This little book makes me crazy in a very good way! I finished my idea of a sticking cat on the last page of the book with outcoming legs :) I will always love puppets of this kind! And so happy I could realize my idea like I saw it in my imagination. The cat is brought on paper with ink and then printed on magnetic paper. And the way to close the Dalíbook is a very loooooong mustache! Hope Dalí will like it :)

Eindelijk was die dag daar! Ik had mijn nichtje van 3 beloofd op ontdekking te gaan naar dat bos hier vlakbij (Stropersbos, Stekene). Hoe meer ik daar kom hoe meer ik nog ga houden van die plek! Dus tijd dat zij het bos ging gaan ontdekken met haar eigen ogen. Ik kocht haar een klein geweven mandje om kleine bos-schatten in op te bergen. Het mandje bleef eerder leeg op een paar eikeltjes en blaadjes na maar haar hoofd en hart werden meer dan gevuld met alle indrukken van deze plek. Bij onze thuiskomst tekenden we het bos op papier en al heel vroeg op de avond droomde Liese weg in een heel groot bed. Deze ochtend maakten we samen nog koekjes voor mama en papa en toen...reed ze wuivend mee in de auto van haar mama. Ze was nog maar net weg en een vreemd gevoel drong die keel van me binnen. Ik miste haar al! Gelukkig ben ik voor mijn broer en zijn vrouw te kunnen genieten van haar dagelijkse ontdekkingen.

That day arrived that I promised my little niece of 3 to go and discover the forest nearby. The more I go to that place the more I love it and it was time that she could see the magic with her own eyes. I bought her a little woven basket to go and collect treasures. Although the basket wasn't full after our visit, her little head and heart were more than fullfilled. After the forest, we painted about it and she dreamed away early in the evening. This morning new energy brought us to the kitchen were I helped her making cookies for mom and dad. ooooooh, this was to good! After she left with her mom, back home...I felt something inside my throat...I was missing her immediately after she left our house. Such a gift this girl and I'm so happy for my brother and his wife they can enjoy every day of her discoveries!

The pleasure of paper and books!

School began again and besides being a teacher of Arts I love it to go on with studies and learn more and more about the things I love to do. Finally I started this branch of 'making books'. I learned it once in one hour, very quickly and I had to do it with that base of knowledge. Happy I'm into the class of Katja Clement (NL) and so curious what we will learn this year. My first exercise / A leporello book, a little book by folding.

Made my little cat-book...it's not finished yet...want to make a little Dalí puppet for it...you will see...want to finish it very soon! ;)
ooooh...and just on the radio...this song is a perfect beginning of this day!

A new illustration for a new Lily-column in the online (dutch) magazine Ziezozon.
It's all about finding your own happiness. How to reach it, what you can or have or may do to find it. And do we have to be full of happiness all the time?
This is for me one moment of daily happiness...Dalí who comes laying down and tells me about his day outside. If there are some hard things that make me sad, thanks to him I can relativate and find my second of happiness!

We celebrated the third birthday of my little niece Liese. She enjoyed from every moment just as we! She came showing the '3'-necklace I made for her of shrinking plastic :) She is such a gift! Next weekend I will take her to the forest, searching mushrooms, nuts, elfs and gnooms ;)....having a little picnic, discovering nature and ourselves together. After that, drinking warm milk and honey, eating a cupcake, painting together, reading books and let flow the imagination until we will fall down in our cloud and dream away after so many adventures. Yes, I'm looking forward to it! Time to create a little human? :)

Suitcase Night

I had a full loaded weekend, I saw my house rarely until now, sundayevening, rainig outside and we together HOME! I teached again after 2 months, we started the new year and I have a bunch of little artists on saturday, curious to know what they will create this year and me too!;) After spending the whole sunday in the museum I'm very glad to find my Dalí home again. I left him outside on friday morning and he stayed away until today.

Especially because he choosed to come home again I gave him this wonderful old suitcase with a patchwork in it that someone gave me when I was a teenager ;) I always loved it...and now even more, if I see how Dalí enjoys his new little place on earth! Such an angel with a big moustache!!!

Remember Olimpia, the cat of my friend Laura in Madrid. Laura wanted her four cats portraited by me as a gift on her wedding for all her family and friends. One year later Dounia, one of the girls from the fotoshoot I did tuesday, see picture down, dreamed of a pillow with the drawing of Olimpia. I designed one for my Envelop-shop, especially for her and everyone who loves this drawing, and so to thank me for all that she made this drawing inspired on my work. I truly LOVE this so much. It's so touching! Her mom started immediately to make a whole lay-out for tea-bags and cookies with her design. See her blogpost about it for more details HERE.
Such a funny and special gift!!! I went crazy for it and I stay crazy I guess! :)

Ilse, fotografe met passie, moeder van drie knappe dochters, vrouw van een man waar ze écht alles aan heeft en waarmee ze 15 jaar getrouwd is, ooit nog leerlinge van me en nu een goede vriendin, vroeg me of ik-als illustrator-een reportage wou maken van haar gezin mét een fototoestel. Het idee leek me redelijk gedurfd aangezien ik nog nooit zoiets gedaan had en ook twijfelde of ik dat wel zou volhouden. Zoals meestal, sluit ik op die momenten mijn ogen en gooi mezelf in het donkere onbekende der melkwegstelsels om dan wel te zien waar ik me neervlei.
Wel, het was ongeloofelijk heerlijk dit te mogen doen in het bos waar ik mijn hart verloor sinds ik in deze contreien woon. Ilse, a photographer with a big passion, mum from three smart daughters, with a husband who supports her in every way and who married her 15 years ago, once a pupil of me en now a very good friend, asked me to make a photoshoot from her family...with a camera. In the beginning I thought I couldn't make that but she was sure and really wanted me to do that for her. I throwed myself in this new adventure while she trusted so much in me.
Now, after the shoot I feel so fulfilled and happy that I did it. My beloved forest was the location where we made the pictures. And now, let hear me what do you think of the result. I'm very curious! To see the work from Ilse itself, check out her blog!

Klapdorp - workshop

Dit was de tweede Klapdorp-workshop georganiseerd op het jaarlijkse straatfeest hier in Sint-Pauwels. Ook met deze kinderen wou ik eens t-shirts drukken d.m.v. sjablonen...en dat lukte aardig. Ik had heel jonge deelnemertjes en die vonden het eigenlijke drukgedeelte met inkt het allerleukste. Ik kreeg zelfs een boel ouders in beweging!
Dat smaakt alleen naar meer en nog en beter ;)

This was the second workshop I organised on our yearly 'streetparty' in the village where I live. I wanted to give it a try to print shirts like I do sometimes in the museum and the results are stunning! There were a bunch of very young children (2-3 years old) and they loved the 'ink-part' of the workshop more then anything else. Also I could move a dozen of parents working with their kids.
It tastes so good, I want more of this and even better :)

Some weeks ago a Hedgehog started crossing the road just in front of my car, I could slow down just in time, Mr. Erizo (hedgehog in spanish) stopped walking, looked to me and moved his little nose, rather smelling than watching I guess, and moved on. That imaged touched me so that I had to draw him...
Last week I found a little hedgehog in my garden, still a young boy and I hope to see him then and now back to have a chat ;) These animals are magic!
Here also a picture of Hans, my garden-hedgehog named to the one of the Jim Henson story.

This week I will give like 6 workshops and even one of them in the street where I live. It's the second year I will invite the kids and also the adults into a little workshop held on the street itself. That day no cars or trucks can pass through it, the street is free of all trafic and the kids are the kings for one day. In the afternoon we have a Barbecue and the party goes on !
Tomorrow I will start my week of workshops in the Plantin-Moretus museum, once the biggest printing facility of Europe. I will bring some pics online so that you can join us in a virtual way ;) and bringing in comments or thoughts. Hear you! :)

R.I.P. Summer

A hard day to awake after the tragedy that happened yesterday on a music festival here in Belgium, named Pukkelpop. I wasn't there but I couldn't get the images out of my head all day long and the saddest thing must be that 5 people lost their lives. All caused by an incredible strong storm that changed the happy crowd into yelling folks trying to survive. There aren't more words needed. My thoughts are with the family and friends from all the people who never will open their eyes again to see a calm sunset or the colors from Gerbera-flowers. Now I want to close my eyes and relax. What should be the last summerfestival for three days ended after one afternoon. This wasn't a summer at all. It's a big tragedy.

Let go

Here she is ! My new illustration for a brand new and touching Lily-column. About saying goodbye, letting go someone you love and farewell. About the pain we feel on those moments and how we try to go on with our lives after it. In France I saw many swallows and every year I am very touched about the migration of all the birds. When they travel above my head to the south I start dreaming and the melancholy enters my heart. They have to say goodbye twice a year...and stay so proud after all. We can learn still a lot from them! And so I gave them a place in this drawing and I'm so proud to share with you the marriage between the column and the drawing on the site of the online-magazine 'Ziezózon'. Although it's in Dutch you can find there a bunch of funny and interesting links to all kinds of subjects. Enjoy this day!

Ending & Starting

After 6 weeks we had to say goodbye to the parents of Javi who were here to visit us for the first time ever and to see a part of Europe for the first time in their lives. It looked far always some months ago and now it's already gone...those days...we are missing them so strong. We are very happy that they are back in Peru after a save journey over the ocean to see back the whole family and tell them huge stories about what they saw and expirienced. The photo above I took yesterday while we visited the forest where we walked together two weeks ago. It's a very normal forest but it looks so exotic, it reminds me even of the rainforest in Peru itself.
And after those huge vacation and many visits in Spain, France, Andorra, Germany and Holland, time to get back to work and DRAW!

Love the word : Zarzamora. It sounds like it tastes...superdelicious!
Meanwhile I'm still guiding around my parents-in-law here in Belgium and nearby. I took them to my favourite forest of the region where we are living and they loved it! Unfortunately I forgot my camera. While we were picking berries a man came to us with a flower bouquet and told me to give them to that young girl overthere, my mother-in-law. She was so honoured and delighted with the flowers and the compliment of that little old men. :) mmm, even Flemish forests can still surprise one. Home, I made marmalade of the little sweeties and made two little jars especially for my nieces Claudia and Milene in Peru. Hope they will like this flavor!

My Peruvian parents-in-law arrived to Belgium last week and I was very busy showing them this little piece of Europe. Every day is a new adventure and also for me it's a kind of experience seeiing my country through their eyes. We are heaving a briljant time together but I can't get myself to my drawingtable these days. After this first week Belgium, time to discover more of Europe! VAMOS!

A garden at his best, apple-evelopes at his best for the kids from the academy to wish them a really deserved vacation, a performer (Juan Luis Guerra) at his best on a Belgium stage after ages (also Calle 13 was heavy to see them performing Live! so happy we were part of the public!) and a little Moleskine that will be part of The Sketchbook Project 2010 World Tour...I have to fill it up with drawings so that it can become part of the Brooklyn Art Library where it will be exhibited to the public...at his best!

Weekend-exhibition | Drongen

Last weekend my work was exposed in a very nice old building that once was the 'colorfactory' of the village named Drongen, near Gent. I was invited by Stefanie De Graef , a briljant illustrator and the grandchild of the man who started this factory long time ago. Fascinating place to show my work, upon the old bricks! Together with 4 other artists/photographers/painters, we had a lovely weekend and received lots of enthousiastic comments on our work! This was the second time I placed my work in front of a public and it tastes so good! Valentina ofcourse was there too and soon I want to start with a man or cat to join her :)
Looking forward to more exhibition with more (new) work !

Sorrel-daydream

As I wanted since weeks or may'be months. Starting to work on wood and not to grow into my watercolour-paper. I gave it a try...with Gesso, and acrylics and even my watercolors and pencils...wooow! This evening was perfect. Kate Bush in the background, heavy wind outside, Dalí afraid of that wind and napping and a warm milk with honey to drink.
In two weeks my parents-in-law will travel to Europe and are coming over to visit us, may'be that's the inspiration for the theme of this drawing. The leave-trees are inspired on the 'sorrel' (zurkel in flemish) growing in my garden. Incredible textures and colour they have!
A very nice weekend to all of you and stay dreaming...because really every dream comes true one day, just wait that one day!For them who love to see behind the drawing/painting, these pics ;)

Etsy Lab in Brussels

Tuesdayevening went to my first Etsy-lab. Under the shelf of Turtlewings.
Etsy NL organised a very nice evening about Art Journaling with Anna Denise. Even while searching a place for my car before arriving to the event I passed the window and it attracted me like a kid to a very big ice-cream. Inside I felt some kind of flowing energy full of creativity and peacefull creating, love and dreams. Even under the table! I shared my little table with Cheryl and Niki from England. I was only in Brussels and could feel the whole world underneath my feet! Good to leave in time Flanders and happy to have still this capital!
oooh this was a perfect evening! More to come I hope!

Sakura to Santiago

I finished the Sakura embroidery and made together with a piece of grey felt a little bag of it. That bag will travel soon from Pamplona to Santiago de Compostella with a friend of me on her walking adventure. I hope she can collect little treasures in it on the way to.The little buttons are Tagua nuts I brought from Perú. Let's see if they reach Santiago :)

My best friend gave me a super-present the day my exhibition opened!
A stitch-frame!
Since months I was following different blogs and sites about embroidery and things like that. It always attracted me and now with my own frame I started finally doiing something...just a doodle of my Sakura-design to search my way into it. It goes well, it is relaxing me and also attracts Dalí in some way :). One day he will start creating too I guess. That boy is following me wherever I go! Now, we are feeling very stitchy and happy!

Mom-feelings

My brother found this little mini-newborn-cat in the field. He called me to ask what to do. We tried to call the mother by putting the little creature back in the field and waiting for her but nobody came to pick him! Now the family of my sister-in-law are taking care of him and we all think he will make it and will be a big strong boy someday. I wanted to bring him home but don't know what could be the reaction of King Dali. :) Anyway...my mom-feelings were touched again!

Valentina startte haar lange reis. Ze besliste dat het tijd was om haar wereld te gaan ontdekken. Haar tweede bestemming is Gent. Mijn Gent van langgeleden waar Ottelien en Aline acht maanden geleden hun chocolade-en boekenzaak openden onder de naam Huize Colette.

Als je in de buurt bent spring dan binnen. Breng Valentina een bezoekje terwijl je geniet van alle lekkers ten huize van Colette, Belfortstraat 6 in Gent.
Dagelijks open van 9u tot 19u, in het weekend vanaf 10u en gesloten op maandag.
Ze logeert daar tot 11 juni 2011 en dan wil ze naar een nieuwe bestemming!

named HUIZE COLETTE.

If you are close, visit Valentina while enjoying the most delicious treasures
home to Huize Colette, Belfortstraat 6, Gent.
Open all day long from 9am to 7pm, weekend from 10am to 7pm and closed on monday.
Valentina stays there untill the 11th of june 2011.
Then she will travel to a new destination!

So ordinary to sell my works into a giftpaper. My fingers were jumping to sew a kind of cotton-bag for each one of them! If feels so good, it looks marvellous and it stays very simple but just what I want! And my lovely buyers were very surprised with it!

My first real exhibition of my latest work is finished. I enjoyed all the comments and thoughts of my visitors through different channels. It tastes very good and surely I want to go on with it!

French inspiration

Some days like GOD in France. Four hours driving from our home but yet enough to pick up another atmosphere and new inspiration to go on drawing and living. Many tastes! Rapeseed-fields, little strong coffees, old wooden cities, fresh milk from the farmers who offered us some hectares for our small stitched house, chocolate easter-bunnies for breakfast, limon pie in the afternoon and the smell of fresh water with frogs croaking around. Only 4 days in a lifetime...but enough to give me energy for centuries!

*** The music you can hear while watching the pics is from Gustavo Santaolalla : an Argentinan composer famous for his soundtracks from The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel and more. I saw him performing last year here in Ghent...and truly a very honest person drived by an enormous passion for sound and the 'Charango'!
He is an absolutely genius and while camping in the field, listening to his music I could cry from happiness ♥

My little birds in the living room...hanged them for Christmas...but they can fly all year long, so even with easter!! Bought them in Amsterdam in a little shop named TIKAL, with all gifts mostly from Mexico. Dalí is preparing himself for some days af lazyness :) and wish you all a deserved and loooong weekend full of crazy life-things ;) x Kathy

We were playing in the garden. Suddenly something changed into his little cat-mind. He scratched me several times,in my leg, in my arm, without any reason. He was like imagining that I was one of those cats who walk into his garden everyday and are trying to reach the kitchen to steal his food.

She loves him and would do anything for him! This was my daydream...:)
For sure we are looking forward to find a perfect little spot in the north of France for our tent.
Reading, playing guitar, swimming, fresh breakfasts into the nature and cosey nights into our little stitched house! Sounds like summer and still april!

Taking my time to decorate my mail for the two winners of the Giveaway, Keanne and Maja (Skorcica). Thinking about my Etsy shop that will be born in the beginning of may...I will love to send out my things and creations. Such a wonderful feeling they will live in another atmosphere.
♥ It's the sunny weather that is driving my crazy I guess. ENJOY!
btw! DISCOVER the heart-nuts in the last picture...a little gift from Dounia and Nisrine, two lovely girls who came to visit my expo and made these treasures for me. They have a very creative mum, Ilse, who is a photographer and since a while a blogger too :)

After all the preparations for my exhibition and giveaway and weeks full of nerves I can look back with a pleasant feeling and time has come to take my pencil again and go back to basics. Me, my righthand, my imagination...and of course my Dalí! Do you wonder why I love drawing cats? Artists and cats...still fascinating me! One of my biggest heroes is surely Gustav Klimt. You know the touching photo of Klimt and his cat? Love that image! Artists and cats...they feed eachother all day long! ♥
