Choosing life

[Eng]My second illustration for a new column of Lily on Bonoboz, a newborn online magazine.
Unfortunatley the column only exists in Dutch, but let's hope you can imagine the story while watching my drawing. My inspiration goes back to my journeys by bike I made some years ago. I was the map-reader and I could decide wich way to take...but that is just the biggest thing! Choosing...because while heading that way I could miss that peticular sight and so on!
Our life is like a map...open it, choose a way and live it!

[Nl] Mijn tweede illustratie bij een column van Lily voor het gloednieuwe en bloeiende online magazine Bonoboz. De column spreekt voor zich maar dieper gravend in mijn herinneringen haalde ik onrechtstreeks mijn inspiratie uit mijn 'fietsende' jaren en mijn eeuwenoude fascinatie voor landkaarten. Ik kon de route bepalen en moest dus ook soms harde beslissingen nemen. Welk pad, welke weg, wat is er dan te zien en wat zal ik nooit zien. Kiezen, net zoals we dagelijks moeten doen in ons leven! Alsof het leven een landkaart is, open ze, zoek een weg en leef die dan ook!

Kat-zand

The good thing of living close to a border makes it easier if you want to escape some hours from the country that you know so well. In my case The Netherlands are only on 10 minutes away from my home and so when we took breakfast in the morning we felt it must be a perfect day to 'escape' a lovely afternoon to the north. Cadzand, the farest point we went, a little town with so many space around it...wind, air, a place to breath in and out before starting a new week.
Ready to start a new monday with brand new creative challenges...a next tuesday with more workshops, a next wednesday with new classes and so on... have a nice week!

Dit wou ik al lange tijd en eindelijk vond ik die tijd! Een stukje gesneden lino, een drukpers en drukken maar. Een blinddrukje als label voor de verpakking van postkaarten, boekenleggers, prints van tekeningen en zoveel meer die ik weldra op de markt gooien zal :)

Baked sunday #2

They say they were invented by an Italian chef in the Swiss town of Meiringen...that should explain the name of these little 'sugarclouds'...one thing is sure. These are mines, made this afternoon on another Baked sunday. Let's make a tradition of it...nothing is so lovely to bake on a rainy or cloudy sunday. See you next sunday :)

[ING]This Christmas project was launched in a small edition last Christmas in but will take off for real in 2011. Karen Kelly Kiefer (Boston, USA) and her four girls wanted to give a life to their Christmas traditon/story and asked me to illustrate The Misfit Sock.
I'm soooo happy I received the KIT. It's a box, with the book and the story inside and also! your own Misfit Sock to decorate and give it wings to fly into the world in search of his friend.

[NL]Dit project werd Kerst 2010 gelanceerd op een kleine oplage. De officiële start is gepland voor Kerst 2011! Hier al een kleine preview!
Het verhaal en de traditie werden vormgegeven door Karen Kelly Kiefer (Boston, VS) en haar 4 meisjes. Ze vonden het tijd de traditie te delen met de wereld en hopen dat alle eenzame sokken zo een toekomst tegemoet kunnen gaan. Ze vroeg mij om het boek en de kit te illustreren en vorm te geven. De kit komt met belletjes inclusief, het boekje met het verhaal én een fantastische 'Misfit Sok' om wensen in te stoppen, te versieren en dus een nieuw leven te geven i.p.v. de 'eenzame sok' te blijven voor eeuwig.

Turrones de Perú

As you know may'be. My heart lays in Perú and there are sooooo many things I love from overthere. Food, traditions, dances, music, art & so many more. But if there is one thing I'm not crazy of then it must be this sweet pie. Turrones de San Jose , the best you can get! My husband brought one with him in november and now he is enjoying every day of his treasure. I was pleased with the package...and a very small piece of it. It's very sweet and above all very dry.
Just not my piece of cake!

They draw & cook ...me too!

Remember my post (10th of october) about my participation for the website from Nate and Salli Theydrawandcook.com. All festival of illustrated recipes from all over the world. Today my little Peruvian 'cholita' can start cooking for all nations her lovely rice with golden drops.

Connected

My first publication for a web magazine!!!
My friend Lily, she wrote a column about being connected with the people around you
for Bonoboz.be, a warm and interesting place on the web for Wo(mens) :)and she invited me to make an illustration for the little story.
I had a marvellous drawing day and today we can enjoy our publication!!!
We cannot pick up the phone today...please let us fly for a while :)
Soon we will be back to earth ;)

Waar ik al heel lang van gedroomd had...een column te kunnen illustreren!

Painful jump

My poor little boy. He is such an explorer...and he took a bad decision to jump like a wild one into the basement. There was waiting a broken vase and she wanted to cut his leg as deep as she could!
Blood on the floor, blood on the door, blood in the bathroom...what an adventure! And this is the way the jump resulted. A collar and 3 staples in his leg...[AUW]...like we say when we feel pain...how do cats (and human) say 'auw' in other languages? Tell me! :)

Anyway Dalí is doing well...just some 6 days more to go with this collar. :(

One day of vacation

Baked sunday #1

Calm weather outside, nothing special, inside still the christmas tree, and lights and angels, stars and other little things that gives me a smile and make me feel happy to be home. Made these 'Alfajores', Peruvian cookies filled with 'Manjar Blanco', a delicious cream homemade in the valley where my man comes from...so easy and sooooo good. The last calories of this weekend...but surely not from this year! :)

2000 + 11 !!!

Our warmest wishes for the new year and that this new piece of paper, the year 2011, may become another masterpiece!
