Framing time

[Eng]My self-invented system of framing. Very easy and simple but a perfect finish for my little watercolors. I don't like refelections. Everyone can see them from very close...every stroke, every line and dot. That's my point! And nerves are growing. In exactly one week my exhibition will open! If you are close, jump in! --- [Nl] Zelf bedacht kadersysteempje. Eenvoudig, makkelijk en het brengt die kleine aquarellen volledig tot hun recht. Ik heb het niet voor kaders vol glas en reflecties. Iedereen kan onnoemelijk dichtbij gaan zien, bijna de inkt nog ruiken, elk vlekje en streepje spotten...en daar komt het op aan voor mij. De zenuwen gluren om de hoek. Nog precies 1 week en de tentoonstelling gaat van start. Ben je in de buurt, kom af!

New start

A new banner, a fresh look, a new month is coming, a new spring...and a new start ;) This banner was the image of my blog since 2008. I'll go on...and my art will never stop changing and growing.

They draw and cook #2

Published today on They Draw and Cook...my illustration for the FIG recipe contest.
I went for the Fresh Fig Jam and I really hope to find nice figs this summer to try this delicious one! My illustration looks like some kind of beach...sugar instead of sand, cloves instead of shells, cinnamon sticks to break the upcoming waves...and so on :)

My girl

I found some time to listen to her...and help her growing...

Although she is not finished yet I'm loving her...it looks like she talking to me...guess that I did a good job with her eyes. I'm ready to make her a dress, hope she will like my idea.

My god! I have already a place for her in my mind on my upcoming exhibition...never thought that some paper and clay could speak to my heart!
In one week you are ready my girl...for the big world!

Spring!

Dalí enjoys the sun like never before. It will be his first Spring ever!
He is very excited my catman! And me too. What light can do with a human being!!! I finished another recipe for They Draw and Cook. This time to participate in a contest about fig-recipes. I went for a fresh fig jam that I want to make very soon for my two men! :)

Eldibujodelgato - postcards!

I started making some postcards of my drawings.
The opening of my Etsy-shop is planned for the beginning of May, so the right time to start designing my future products :) This is Blossom Breeze in a new lay-out...do you like it?

彼女が家にいた

She was home.
Suddenly the whole house shaked.
and she knew that this wasn't like before.
She looked outside and the sea was bigger than normally
...a huge monster was coming closer.
And then she started dreaming that they were running, she and her little cat,
higher and higher into the mountains.
Forever she will stay into that dream.
The sea is calm again...the house isn't anymore.

Frames

I'm preparing my upcoming expo and surely one of the most important things so that your public has a pleasant view onto your work should be the frame around the work.

My drawings are so small, mostly like a postcard, nothing more and I was searching a nice and honest idea for my works. First I thought to work with second hand frames (tough that will take me ages to find exactly those that I will like!) all different ones...but I think I founded it! It's very simple but looks strong although a little sensible cause I don't use glass to protect. I don't like glass! It gives me nerves all the time. So this is my try-out with the first drawing. I painted a background, made a frame out of wood, pasted those two together and then I bring some cardboard on the back of the drawing...that way the drawing is lifted from the background and a little shadow makes the drawing floating in the Aubergine-sea around it. Now, I know what to do next weeks ;)

Noooo! I'm not always in a flow! :) Javi made this pic saturday afternoon...
when my week of vacation started.
No academy, no museum-workshops,...sounds like no work at all but I planned so much to do!
In one month I will have an exhibition with my drawings, so I can start organizing and arranging everything for that event. Making invitations, printing postcards, framing my drawings, finishing my Valentina-doll, ...and so many more!
I will come up with another Giveaway in the last week of march.
My way to thank you for visiting me here all year round, to thank the gods bringing Spring back to live and to give everyone the possibility to join in my exhibiton.

Pre-Inca Workshop

For a kind of a 'World day' on a school in the 'far-west' of Flanders I gave a workshop inspired on the pre-inca woven textiles. The kids (12-13 years) worked with stencils of adhesive plastic on cotton with acrylics and sponges. They learned about another culture that is still so unknown for them at that age...and I could share once more my infinitely passion for my second home.

Back to my press

A little test on my printing press before I go printing this afternoon with the kids on the academy. We made drawings with glue and sand and now they are ready to print. I'm so excited to see their results! Find out here the drawings they made already on my other BLOG.

Waiting

Ting, ting, ting...
went outside already 100 times making to much noise to call my black beauty inside. It's already march, but february, known as the cat-month is still playing in the head of my Dalí. He left the house this morning and still didn't came back. Bad boy...I'm still waiting for you!

Tableau Vivant

Yesterday we celebrated together with 11 Antwerp Academies of Art, Music and Drama the yearly event on wich we want to show to our arts to a bigger audience. It was the first time they organized a huge event in one place, everybody together under one roof. It was a terrific day, loooots of people, parents with their kids and an enormous crowd where present to discover our treasures. While the big crowd was turning around different stages and performances, my coleagues and me started a Tableau Vivant. Students on the piano and harp played some classical tunes while we tried to illustrate words given by different people with ink and pencil on a tremendous paper. So much fun we had to do this! Not that easy but the result was quite impressive. All those styles together...one big story...hidden in lines. We have to do more things like this! And soon want to try that with my 6 years old students :)

Bright Knights

Just found this call for an Australian band that is recording a kind of stop-motion video. On the website of Bright Knights you can download a frame and colour it in as you like (not digital) just keeping in mind to make the background blue. Very original form of editing a video, with coloured frames from all over the world, so different and subcultural. Hope mine will be pasted in the video too :) . Feel free to download, colour the frame, scan it and send it back to the guys!

Origami - life

A very small stop-motion to check out the possbilities of Windows live Moviemaker. It's just basic, very easy to use and nothing more special, ...and for me the software is on the second place, playing and creating is just so much fun! When I was 9 I was folding billions of papers everyday...that was my Origami-age! :)

The view

[Eng] Modelling must be my second love after drawing.
This is too crazy for words. Valentina, my 'el dibujo del gato'-doll, born on the 14th of april, last monday...will start the weekend with two brilliant green eyes. Finally I could find some time to paint them with glasspaint and it's amazing what kind of vibration this gives to a piece of clay. Also I started to give her hair on my own invented way. That's for later, when I finished all of that. I'm still modelling her eyes...she cannot start drying yet...although I can't wait to polish the head and go on with the body, her hands and some other magic thing :)
Don't have so much time to draw right now!
Valentina wants to live and I have to help her!

[Nl] Dit moet wellicht mijn tweede passie zijn na tekenen. Poppen modelleren!
Valentina, geboren op 14 februari, dus afgelopen maandag zal het weekend starten met glasheldere groene ogen. Zo gek, wat een beetje verf kan doen op een bolletje klei. Daar doe ik het voor. Het lijkt een écht leven bijna dat ik schonk aan dit hompje!
Of ben ik té enthousiast? Ondertussen vond ik een manier om haar een waanzinnige haardos te geven...dat is stof voor later :)
Nog even en dan kan het hoofd drogen, kan ik het polijsten en doorgaan met de andere delen, zoals handen, lichaam en nog een beetje magie!
Nu heb ik amper tijd om te tekenen. Valentina wacht om het leven binnen te wandelen en deze wereld te zien!

Als jij haar zou kunnen gidsen op deze wereldbol, waarheen zou je haar meenemen? Wat moet ze zeker gezien hebben met die waanzinnige kijkers van haar? Vertel!

Valentina is born!

On this lovers day I gave birth to a little girl...made out of paper and clay.
Now she can start growing every day. Hope that I can give her a view on the world very soon. I'm so excited about her arrival...exactly on this day!
She is still so young but want to wish everyone a very happy Valentine's day!!!
[She will grow into the next weeks but I'm trying to keep her inside until she will enter the big world in april 2011 on my exhibition.]
Watch her birth on these polaroids!Vandaag, precies vandaag gaf ik het leven aan een meisje!
En dan nog wel eentje van papier en klei. Wat een gevoel!
Vanaf nu zal ze elke dag een beetje groeien en ik hoop haar heel spoedig een stel wondermooie ogen te geven zodat ze eindelijk kan zien waar ze opgroeien zal. Ook al is ze nog zo pril, ze wil jullie allemaal een hele warme Valentijn wensen!!!

El mundo del Gato

[Eng]This is a small selection of the drawings I made over 2 years.
It's quite strange to see how the drawing mind can change over days, months and years. I feel ready to show them in real life for public.
Never saw them all together as they all got a life on one specific day on this blog. A selection of aprox. 50 drawings will be exposed in April 2011.

[Nl] Dit is een kleine selectie van tekeningen die ik maakte in de laatste 2 jaar.
Het is soms bevreemdend te zien hoe een tekenende geest verandert na verloop van tijd. Het moment is gekomen om ze eens in levende lijve voor te stellen aan een publiek. Ik zag ze zelf nog nooit samen aangezien elke tekening een leven kreeg op een welbepaalde dag van deze blog. Een selectie van ongeveer 50 tekeningen zal tentoongesteld worden in April 2011.

Coconut-time

It feels like spring is coming closer and closer! I made these little funny 'macaroons'. Me, my coffee and a little macaroon on monday!

Mix two eggs with 180gr of sugar and add like 200gr rasped coconut...make little mountains and bake for 15 min on 180°c! mmmmmm!

Exchanging friendship

While I was preparing my package with the bookmark, Tania's jewels arrived in my arms, or better onto my ears :)
I loved them on first sight! Not only because they are handmade by Tania but even more for the new friendship we share since some weeks and that's based more exactly on our shared passion for Perú. She is half Peruvian, I imagine every day that I am Peruvian but lucky I am to be married with a Peruvian and to have also my family there, who I miss so much. Tania and I can share a lot...and the most beautiful are the things we create. So we arranged an exchange of our art. And I can tell you, that feels so inspiring! My package is flying over the globe and things like that make me feel living for real...

Mark your book!

My own BOOKMARK
The first product for my upcoming shop is born!
This one is based on the drawing I did for They Draw & Cook and serves especially in all kinds of delicious cooking bibles. It's so fun to think of the package, the presentation, printing, cutting and all the details.
The first one is flying to Tania Cavenecia Torres in California, USA.
She is an artist and jewelry designer that is influenced by her Peruvian heritage and she loved this drawing.

Thanks to her my products are growing...I'm working on it and hope to open very soon my Etsy-shop.

Choosing life

[Eng]My second illustration for a new column of Lily on Bonoboz, a newborn online magazine.
Unfortunatley the column only exists in Dutch, but let's hope you can imagine the story while watching my drawing. My inspiration goes back to my journeys by bike I made some years ago. I was the map-reader and I could decide wich way to take...but that is just the biggest thing! Choosing...because while heading that way I could miss that peticular sight and so on!
Our life is like a map...open it, choose a way and live it!
And if you can read Dutch, go ahead and read Lily's new story...marvellous!

[Nl] Mijn tweede illustratie bij een column van Lily voor het gloednieuwe en bloeiende online magazine Bonoboz. De column spreekt voor zich maar dieper gravend in mijn herinneringen haalde ik onrechtstreeks mijn inspiratie uit mijn 'fietsende' jaren en mijn eeuwenoude fascinatie voor landkaarten. Ik kon de route bepalen en moest dus ook soms harde beslissingen nemen. Welk pad, welke weg, wat is er dan te zien en wat zal ik nooit zien. Kiezen, net zoals we dagelijks moeten doen in ons leven! Alsof het leven een landkaart is, open ze, zoek een weg en leef die dan ook!

Kat-zand

The good thing of living close to a border makes it easier if you want to escape some hours from the country that you know so well. In my case The Netherlands are only on 10 minutes away from my home and so when we took breakfast in the morning we felt it must be a perfect day to 'escape' a lovely afternoon to the north. Cadzand, the farest point we went, a little town with so many space around it...wind, air, a place to breath in and out before starting a new week.
Ready to start a new monday with brand new creative challenges...a next tuesday with more workshops, a next wednesday with new classes and so on... have a nice week!
