Earth & Music

 ***

Two things that inspired me since I was born came together this week.
First my fascination for globes and maps. For the educational part of an upcoming exhibition in the museum where I'm working I'm redesigning the globe of Mercator, belgian and worldfamous for his maps, globes and projections, for kids. They will go home with their own little Mercator-globe...if I manage it this week to finish this project! And today just opened an exhibition in Sint-Niklaas about this man and his maps. Like I was waiting for it to inspire me more and more...I'm ready to make a nice educational plate of it.
Already tried a little print...later more!
***
And even it looks like I'm not drawing anymore, I do but still busy times in the museum...so time for my other inspiration : Music! We went to Utrecht (Nl) yesterday. Never been there, enjoyed the afternoon strolling around the lovely houses and little shops, drinking to much latte and eating lemoncake...to finish the day in Tivoli to pick up the concert of Lianne La Havas. All because we were to late to buy a ticket for her concert in Brussels...so luckily we are to live in the smallest country of the whole world...driving to another country for a concert isn't that hard. Lianne was just perfect and made our day/weekend! Discover her tunes and be overwhelmed by this brand new voice and enormous talent!
Time for a new week, a lot of work and still hoping to find some time to draw a gato ;)

Have a nice week wherever you are...we are on the same cosy globe! x

The pleasure of paper and books!

School began again and besides being a teacher of Arts I love it to go on with studies and learn more and more about the things I love to do. Finally I started  this branch of 'making books'. I learned it once in one hour, very quickly and I had to do it with that base of knowledge. Happy I'm into the class of Katja Clement (NL) and so curious what we will learn this year. My first exercise / A leporello book, a little book by folding.
Made my little cat-book...it's not finished yet...want to make a little Dalí puppet for it...you will see...want to finish it very soon! ;)
ooooh...and just on the radio...this song is a perfect beginning of this day!
Bon Iver and Holoscene
ENJOY it!

R.I.P. Summer

A hard day to awake after the tragedy that happened yesterday on a music festival here in Belgium, named Pukkelpop. I wasn't there but I couldn't get the images out of my head all day long and the saddest thing must be that 5 people lost their lives. All caused by an incredible strong storm that changed the happy crowd into yelling folks trying to survive. There aren't more words needed. My thoughts are with the family and friends from all the people who never will open their eyes again to see a calm sunset or the colors from Gerbera-flowers. Now I want to close my eyes and relax. What should be the last summerfestival for three days ended after one afternoon. This wasn't a summer at all. It's a big tragedy.

At his best

Some shots from my week! A garden at his best, apple-evelopes at his best for the kids from the academy to wish them a really deserved vacation, a performer (Juan Luis Guerra) at his best on a Belgium stage after ages (also Calle 13 was heavy to see them performing Live! so happy we were part of the public!) and a little Moleskine that will be part of The Sketchbook Project 2010 World Tour...I have to fill it up with drawings so that it can become part of the Brooklyn Art Library where it will be exhibited to the public...at his best!
New week, new adventures and so many things to happen! ENJOY!

Bright Knights

Just found this call for an Australian band that is recording a kind of stop-motion video. On the website of Bright Knights you can download a frame and colour it in as you like (not digital) just keeping in mind to make the background blue. Very original form of editing a video, with coloured frames from all over the world, so different and subcultural. Hope mine will be pasted in the video too :) . Feel free to download, colour the frame, scan it and send it back to the guys!

One week

The same place somewhere in Antwerp with a difference of one week. And I rediscovered this song of David Byrne and Brian Eno. Fascinating video!

A new adventure

Before illustrating a music album cover for The Lightning Vishwa Experience I wanted to dig into this new world of music covers. These are some of my most favorites and I thought they were lovely enough to share them with you!
So thrilling to start this new journey!

Balrog

Love to draw these animals and to try catching their soul. You cannot believe how I was drawing this one. With Toulouse ( the already famous neighbour-cat) on my legs and with a back that was hurting me. But the most important in a cat's lover-life : if the cat is comfortable, everybody is happy ;)

Nubia

Nubia ( or Cloud in english, named to the cloudpeople in Egypt) is one of the lovely cats of our good friend Laura in Madrid. I will draw all her cats in some way with an interest of her and her future husband. Laura loves to dance flamenco, so Nubia seemed the best cat to pull on that riple dress... Those drawings will be transform into coasters. That will be a little gift to all the invited friends and family on her wedding day in the beginning of July! Exciting! You will see them all!

My puppet

Here he is...uuuf had to search very deep into all my archives... I made the puppet, shoes, head, guitar...and the little white costume that Goran Bregovic wears like always on every concert was made by a good friend/neighbour. That teamwork made this wonder...I'm still happy to see this photo...and my fingers are yelling to start again making puppets! :)
I will not tell you what I did to bring this picture into the hands of Mr. Bregovic themself! Even Emir Kusturica saw this picture somewhere in Croatia ;)))

Under the Ivy

Yes, I am a huge fan of Kate...Kate Bush...every song of her takes me by the throat...and those 80's were golden years, being a child and dicovering this life. Here is my interpretation of 'Under the Ivy'. The one you are listening...
Made this drawing in the last sunlight of this day and I enjoyed it!

Come live the life!

After hearing a new song of a Belgian band named K's Choice I really wanted to know who made the clip for their song 'Come live the life'. After some research I found the video on Vimeo and it seems made by French artists. The band just bought the video for the song...not what I was thinking, anyway, still like the song and the video has a great message!
