El gato Frank

Last week I joined a workshop 'making your own puppet' in the workplace of Theater Froefroe in Antwerp. First I thought to make a girl like those ones I'm used to draw but suddenly she turned out into a cat and she became more HE :) With a block of foam, scissors, cutters and strong glue we started creating our 'thing'. Yesterday I took my creation to the kids of my saturday-class and they gave him the name Frank. Why Frank is a very good question! Zappa? Stella? Ghery? Anyway...don't try to guess. There are kids for! :) I will try from now to use our 'Frank' to tell them about painters, artists and creators from all over. :) When Frank is talking they are so quiet ;)))

La gigante

Remembering last friday when I went to the city-streetact of Royal de Luxe. A french theatre that is used working with giant puppets. They need like 60 humans to move the 'little' girl and her still much bigger uncle. Would be nice if they could live forever close to us. That helps us to see life a little bit different...and they brought people together again! Huge!
Watch my pics I took that day here.

La Route

Summertime is finally time to discover more new theatres on so many festivals spread over Europe. Like this group Anonima Teatro out of France with their roadshow La Route. Energy and humor with some little dolls on the 'rolling' road. Everything is hidden in their car, even the colourful background that helps telling their story. May'be they will cross your pad one day...enjoy summer...or winter on the southern part of the world;)

The Barren Carrousel

On a yearly family-festival here in the little town where I live...I was surprised by the act of these two Irish ladies, Anita and Kelsey, who perform as Ruby Barren and Tulip. The Barren Carrousel brings a stunning show in full color and nice accent ;), with marvellous suits...and freaky stunts. Two very charming and little ladies out from Belfast made my day! Thank you!

My puppet

Here he is...uuuf had to search very deep into all my archives... I made the puppet, shoes, head, guitar...and the little white costume that Goran Bregovic wears like always on every concert was made by a good friend/neighbour. That teamwork made this wonder...I'm still happy to see this photo...and my fingers are yelling to start again making puppets! :)
I will not tell you what I did to bring this picture into the hands of Mr. Bregovic themself! Even Emir Kusturica saw this picture somewhere in Croatia ;)))

A midsummer night's dream

Pictures : Marc Maillard (Theater FroeFroe)

My weekend was so FULL but unforgettable.
For the first time I could enjoy a production from Theater Froe Froe: Midsummer Night's Dream

"Froe froe is known for its strange mixture of dolls, figures, objects, video, actors and music. The performances contain humour and horror, poetry and rock ‘n’ roll for young and old. Froe froe makes impressions, concoctions and brings puppets alive as you have never seen on stage before.

Between "Little Red Riding Hood" and “Macbeth” there lies nothing but a little sigh of air…

Every new project is a quest for fresh and original theatre, full of emotion, poetry, tension and diversion.

Cool and crazy theatre that sparkles!!!"

See for more info on froefroe.be

If you want to see more work of the puppetmakers themselves go to this link!

Myself, I am very crazy of making puppets...once I made a Goran Bregovic for the marriage of friends.
If I find that picture I will post it above!;) Now I can look forward to follow someday a workshop with these inceredible creators!

A day in the park

Looks like horror but it was just part of an act from Theater Tieret...a belgian company that performed on a little festival in the park of Lokeren, a typical village in Flanders. Every year I go to enjoy these performers with puppets or just themselves. I am absolutely not a good photographer, but this one has something!!! Look the little child ...she doesn't know what to think of this purple smoke...the other childs were yelling and she didn't know to wake up tears or to laugh with it like all the adults did...without knowing the result I took this image in a reflexing second! :)
