Klapdorp - workshop

Dit was de tweede Klapdorp-workshop georganiseerd op het jaarlijkse straatfeest hier in Sint-Pauwels. Ook met deze kinderen wou ik eens t-shirts drukken d.m.v. sjablonen...en dat lukte aardig. Ik had heel jonge deelnemertjes en die vonden het eigenlijke drukgedeelte met inkt het allerleukste. Ik kreeg zelfs een boel ouders in beweging!
Dat smaakt alleen naar meer en nog en beter ;)

This was the second workshop I organised on our yearly 'streetparty' in the village where I live. I wanted to give it a try to print shirts like I do sometimes in the museum and the results are stunning! There were a bunch of very young children (2-3 years old) and they loved the 'ink-part' of the workshop more then anything else. Also I could move a dozen of parents working with their kids.
It tastes so good, I want more of this and even better :)

Kidnap me Mr. Erizo

Some weeks ago a Hedgehog started crossing the road just in front of my car, I could slow down just in time, Mr. Erizo (hedgehog in spanish) stopped walking, looked to me and moved his little nose, rather smelling than watching I guess, and moved on. That imaged touched me so that I had to draw him...
Last week I found a little hedgehog in my garden, still a young boy and I hope to see him then and now back to have a chat ;) These animals are magic!

Workshop Day 3 / Monsters & T-shirts

De laatste dag van de 'zomer'-workshops in het museum zijn afgesloten met spectaculaire t-shirts and gekke monsters in inkt.
The last day of the 'summer'-workshops with a marvellous ending story of printed shirts ;) and crazy scary monsters in ink.

Workshop Day 2 / A beasty linocut

In de voormiddag schreven de kinderen een 'beestig verhaal' en na de middag gingen ze aan de slag met linoleum om een opvallende cover voor hun mini-boekje te ontwerpen.
Before noon the kids were writing a 'beasty' story and in the afternoon they designed their own cover for the little book by linocutting.

Workshop-week

This week I will give like 6 workshops and even one of them in the street where I live. It's the second year I will invite the kids and also the adults into a little workshop held on the street itself. That day no cars or trucks can pass through it, the street is free of all trafic and the kids are the kings for one day. In the afternoon we have a Barbecue and the party goes on !
Tomorrow I will start my week of workshops in the Plantin-Moretus museum, once the biggest printing facility of Europe. I will bring some pics online so that you can join us in a virtual way ;) and bringing in comments or thoughts. Hear you! :)

R.I.P. Summer

A hard day to awake after the tragedy that happened yesterday on a music festival here in Belgium, named Pukkelpop. I wasn't there but I couldn't get the images out of my head all day long and the saddest thing must be that 5 people lost their lives. All caused by an incredible strong storm that changed the happy crowd into yelling folks trying to survive. There aren't more words needed. My thoughts are with the family and friends from all the people who never will open their eyes again to see a calm sunset or the colors from Gerbera-flowers. Now I want to close my eyes and relax. What should be the last summerfestival for three days ended after one afternoon. This wasn't a summer at all. It's a big tragedy.

Let go

Here she is ! My new illustration for a brand new and touching Lily-column. About saying goodbye, letting go someone you love and farewell. About the pain we feel on those moments and how we try to go on with our lives after it. In France I saw many swallows and every year I am very touched about the migration of all the birds. When they travel above my head to the south I start dreaming and the melancholy enters my heart. They have to say goodbye twice a year...and stay so proud after all. We can learn still a lot from them! And so I gave them a place in this drawing and I'm so proud to share with you the marriage between the column and the drawing on the site of the online-magazine 'Ziezózon'. Although it's in Dutch you can find there a bunch of funny and interesting links to all kinds of subjects. Enjoy this day!

Ending & Starting

After 6 weeks we had to say goodbye to the parents of Javi who were here to visit us for the first time ever and to see a part of Europe for the first time in their lives. It looked far always some months ago and now it's already gone...those days...we are missing them so strong. We are very happy that they are back in Peru after a save journey over the ocean to see back the whole family and tell them huge stories about what they saw and expirienced. The photo above I took yesterday while we visited the forest where we walked together two weeks ago. It's a very normal forest but it looks so exotic, it reminds me even of the rainforest in Peru itself.
And after those huge vacation and many visits in Spain, France, Andorra, Germany and Holland, time to get back to work and DRAW!
